About Us

Our History

Holy Redeemer Primary School is a Roman Catholic school located on 144 North Front Street and 14 New Road. Its Managing Authority is the Catholic Public Schools. It was established in 1869 when Brother Mark Quinn, S.J. became the first principal with twenty boys in his care. Eight years later, Mrs. Anne Cato, an English lay missionary, started the parish school for girls. In 1923, the name Holy Redeemer was used instead of the previous names – Catholic Boys’ School or Catholic Girls’ School.

In 1929, the school moved to its present location on North Front Street. In 1965, it was changed to three divisions – Lower, Middle and Upper – and became co-educational.

At the same time, the Upper School became departmental. In the year 2000, with the signing of the new Board Rules: Holy Redeemer Upper, Middle, and Lower divisions were amalgamated. Today, Holy Redeemer School is managed by Mrs. Celia Usher, General Manager of Catholic Public Schools, Most Rev. Bishop Lawrence Nicascio, the Local Manager and Mrs. Marva Eusey, the Assistant Local Manager of our school. At present, Holy Redeemer School has an enrollment of 1,038 students (500 boys and 538 girls) with a staff of 43 teachers. Ms. Leticia Waight is the principal with three vice-principals, Mrs. Lourdes Alamina (Upper), Ms. Fidelia Cuéllar (Middle) and Ms. Marixa Guerra (Lower).
